Tennis team improves to 3-0 in district

Head tennis coach Kevin McIlvain reported the varsity netters improved their record to 8-3 overall and 3-0 in district play with wins over Mayde Creek (16-3), Katy (19-0) and Morton Ranch (15-0).
The boys squad also recorded what McIlvain called “an impressive 6-3 win” over Strake Jesuit last week.
The team’s success so far has secured it one of the top four seeds in the district tournament, McIlvain said. The Spartans still have the always strong Cinco Ranch (3 p.m. Sept. 29 at Cinco Ranch) and Taylor in the (3 p.m. Oct. 6 at SLHS) on their schedule.

Volleyball notches first district win of 2009

A come-from-behind win marked the District 17-5A opener for the Seven Lakes varsity volleyball team.
The Spartans needed four games to get past Mayde Creek Friday in Rams gym.
After Mayde Creek took the first game in the best-of-five match 25-18, the Spartans rallied to take the next four 25-17, 25-16 and a nail-biting 25-23.
The win brings the team’s record to 14-16 overall and 1-0 in district play. Earlier in the season the team posted wins over perennial powerhouse Memorial High School and Clear Springs.
The Spartans are led offensively by Jill Ivy (248 kills, 3.2 per game), Nicole Bardaji (204 kills, 2.65 pg), Amanda Grimes (132 kills, 1.74 pg) and Courtney Ursery (129 kills, 1.95 pg). Ivy, and Emily Adams lead the Spartans in service aces with 30 each, while Morgan McKellar (16) and Paige Richardson (11) have helped keep opponents in check.
Adams sits atop the team’s assist category with 362 on the season (6.24 pg) and is helped out by Claire Bauman who has notched 190 thus far (4.75 pg).
McKellar leads the team in digs with 274 (3.04 pg), along with Ivy (1762.29 pg), who leads the team in blocks with 94 (47 solo, 47 assisted, 1.22 pg). Grimes has issued a fair number of rejections with 47 blocks (23 solo, 24 assisted, 0.64 pg).
The Spartans take on cross-town rival Katy at 5:30 p.m. in Spartans gym Tuesday, Sept. 29. The Tigers (7-16, 1-0) opened district play in straight set win over Morton Ranch.

Northbrook falls to Spartans on Senior Night

The Spartan varsity football team made a statement Friday night when it defeated Northbrook High School 57-0.
The win, which came on Senior Night, marked the Spartans largest margin of victory and set a school record for the most points scored in a regular season game.

Freshman squads post zeros

The Seven Lakes High School Freshman football squads improved their record to 5-0-1 overall with wins this week.
The Freshman A team posted 51 points and gave up none against Northbrook High School. The squad also posted wins against Foster and Dulles high schools during the first two weeks of play.

The Freshman B team bettered its record to 2-0-1 with a win over Fort Bend Travis. Taylor fell victim to the B team, which has yet to allow a score, in week one. Week two saw the Spartans reach a 0-0 stalemate with Foster High School.

Spartan Boys Golf 4th in State

The varsity boys golf team took 4th place in the State Golf tournament last week in Austin. This was the teams 3rd straight trip to the state tournament (1st in 5A) and their best finish. Congratulations goes out to Sophomore Juan Espiga who shot 77-79, Junior Trey Sullivan who shot 73-75, and Seniors Zach Smalls who shot 77-74, Brian Swanson who shot 77-70, and Albert Miner who shot 74-74. It was a great way to finish off the season and high school golf career for those seniors. Albert Miner will continue playing at the collegiate level as he has signed to play for Sam Houston State University in the fall. Congratulations to all of them for all the time and hard work they have put in this year.

2009 Golf Tournament & Prize Drawing

Hello All,

We have a couple of exciting events happening within the The Spartan Club for the spring of 2009.

First, we have a Prize Drawing (Raffle) and we will awarding the following prizes to three lucky winners on April 13th, 2009.

Second, we have our 4th Annual Athletic Booster Club Golf Tournament Monday, April 13th. It is a school holiday.

We will be at various sporting events at the school and if you would like to purchase tickets outside of the school please contact spartanclub@gmail.com . Tickets are 1 for $5.00 or 5 for $20.00. You do not need to be present to win.

Golf at the State Tournament

The Spartan golf team competed in the State 4A golf tournament May 5th and 6th. The Spartans brought home a 5th place finish at from the state tournament. Congratulation to Albert Miner (73, 79), Brian Swanson (86, 75), Juan Espiga (83, 72), Trey Sullivan (79, 83), and Ryan Hadash (75, 83) for an outstanding season. These boys deserve all the credit for an wonderful season.

Janell Lysack competed as a medalist for the Girls 4A State
tournament. She ended up tied for 3rd and lost on the first playoff hole shooting 73, 77. This completed a season where she took 3rd at district, won the Regional Tournament and then placing at state. She has set a high standard for the Spartan Girls Golf Team.

This was a wonderful season for all Spartan golf teams. They are looking forward to the jump up to 5A next year and competing against Cinco and Taylor for the district title.

Boy's Golf Heading to State!

The Varsity Boys golf team took 1st and 3rd place at the Region 3 4-A golf tournament in Huntsville on Friday.


The 3rd place team was led by Ryan Hadash shooting 76-75, Tyler Thompson 80, 77, Hank Miner 84, 78, Charlie Peters 80, 83, and Logan Harper 84, 79.


The 1st place team was led by Albert Miner shooting 72, 74 winning the Regional tournament. Brian Swanson took 3rd in overall scoring shooting 73, 74, with Trey Sullivan shooting 77, 72, Juan Espiga shooting 74, 76, and Zach Smalls shooting 76, 76 all to help the Spartans dominate winning by 14 strokes over Huntsville. Trent Thompson competed as a medalist and shot 83, 83 in his first regional tournament. The 1st place team earned another trip to state and will complete in Austin next Monday May 5th for the state title.



Congratulations Girls Varsity Golf!!

Congratulations to the Seven Lakes Girls Varsity Golf Team of Janell Lysack, Michelle Hartmann, Jourdan Holder, Taylor Burchard, and Morgan Mitchell. These girls competed against the 7 time state champions from Montgomery and gave them a scare the second day. The team shot 341 on Tuesday a new school record. The two day score of 702 was also a new school record. Janell Lysack won the Region 3 AAAA tournament shooting 79, 73 (even par the second day). She won by 5 strokes over the next player. She will compete at the State Tournament May 5-6 in Austin. Please congratulate these outstanding young ladies when you see them. They have worked hard all and are very proud of their accomplishments this year.

Boys Varsity Golf Finishes Strong

The Seven Lakes Varsity boys golf team finished atop the leader board
at the Kingwood Invitational this past weekend.



The tournament was played on the Marsh course of the Kingwood Country
Club. Notable teams that played in the tournament were Cinco Ranch,
Clements, Montgomery, Clear Creek, The Woodlands, and Austin High.

Taking five out of six scores each day, the Spartans shot 388 on
Friday and 391 on Saturday for a two-day total of 779. The Spartans
trailed the Woodlands by two strokes after Friday's round. They came
up strong on Saturday winning by 11 strokes over the Woodlands (790).

Trey Sullivan was second in overall scoring shooting 79-71-150. Brian
Swanson tied for third shooting 73-78 -151, Albert Miner shot
78-77-155, Juan Espiga shot 79-83-162, Zach Smalls shot 80-84-164, and
Hank Miner shot 85-82-167.
