SPARTANS WIN!

The SLHS Spartan Baseball team comes out victorious over Strake Jesuit in their first playoff game with a winning score of 6-3.

They will play Friday night at Strake Jesuit at 4:30.

Strake Jesuit - 8900 Bellaire Blvd., Houston
Take the Westpark Toll Road to the Gessner exit
Turn right onto Gessner
Go to Bellaire and take a right.
Strake is on the right hand side.



Next Spartan Club General Memembership Meeting

The next Spartan Club General Membership Meeting is Monday, May 24th at 7:00 PM in the LGI Room at SLHS. This is a very important meeting, as we will review and approve the 2010-2011 "Proposed" Budget. If you have some free time each month, and you want to get involved as a VOLUNTEER, please come to our last meeting of the school year.



Sports Physicals

Baseball News from Coach Payne

Friday night the Spartan varsity baseball team beat Taylor 10-4 to claim a share of the 17-5A district championship. Both teams finished the district with a 10-5 record. Taylor will be the #1 seed, and Seven Lakes will be the #2 seed in the playoffs. This is the first district championship for SLHS baseball. The Spartan varsity baseball team finished the season 18-11-2, and tied the school record for most wins in a season.

This week is the bi-district round of the 5A playoffs. Seven Lakes is matched with Strake Jesuit. The best 2 of 3 series will be:

Thursday @ Seven Lakes 7:00
Friday @ Strake Jesuit 4:30
Saturday @ Seven Lakes 2:00 (if necessary)

Also, congratulations to Kyle Bacak who has been chosen to participate in the THSBCA All Star game in Round Rock at Dell Diamond on June 20. This is the highest honor a senior can achieve. 40 of the best seniors in the state will be divided into two teams for the All Star game. Kyle is a 4-year starter and was 2009 1st team all-district catcher.

Spartan Track Regionals

The Spartan Boys Track Team will be heading to Regionals on Monday May 3rd and Tuesday May 4th. The following qualifying athletes will be representing SLHS.

100 Meter - Leekus Green (11.07 qualified 2nd)

1600 Meter - Alex LeRoux (4:29.28 qualified 3rd)

3200 Meter - Greg White (9:26.74 qualified 1st))
and Alex LeRoux (9:47.41 qualified 2nd)

4X100 Relay - Leekus Green, Josh Benenoch, Jamail Harris, John Oglesby (42.60 qualified 2nd)

Discus - Aaron Bryant (137'9" qualified 1st)

Shotput - Ek Yancy (53'2" qualified 1st)

Spartan Basketball 2009-2010

The Spartan Boys’ Basketball program continued their winning ways in 2009-2010. The Varsity team won their 2nd straight 17-5A District Championship and went on to win 25 games including their third consecutive year of a being an Area Finalist after beating Alief Taylor in the first round of the UIL Play-offs. The 9B Team and Sophomore Team both won District Championships also giving the program 17 District Championships in 5 years. The Spartans have big things planned for the 2010-2011 season as the team returns 4 starters and 8 players to the varsity. Mark your calendars for November 16th when the Spartans open the season at Langham Creek and their home opener, Friday November 19th versus Jersey Village High School.

Spartan Girls Golf

The Lady Spartans captured their first regional golf championship and first invitation to the 2010 UIL Golf State 5A Championships on May 13-14. Seven Lakes shot 340 on Monday to trail leader Clear Creek by a shot. The Lady Spartans logged a 324 team score on Tuesday for a two-day total of 664, six shots ahead of runner-up Clear Lake (670).

Janell Lysack fired the low round of the Region III-5A Girls’ Championship on Tuesday to pull the Seven Lakes girls’ golf team clear of a charging Clear Lake squad at Eagle Point Golf Club. Lysack (79-72) played consistent golf to fire an even-par 72 to finish as second low medalist for the 36-hole tournament.



Spartan Varsity Baseball Game

Come out and support the Seven Lakes Spartan Varsity Baseball team this Friday, April 30th at 7:00 p.m. at SLHS. This is the last home game and last district game of this 2010 season. The Spartans take on The Taylor Mustangs. A win will give SLHS a co-district championship.



Tennis team improves to 3-0 in district

Head tennis coach Kevin McIlvain reported the varsity netters improved their record to 8-3 overall and 3-0 in district play with wins over Mayde Creek (16-3), Katy (19-0) and Morton Ranch (15-0).
The boys squad also recorded what McIlvain called “an impressive 6-3 win” over Strake Jesuit last week.
The team’s success so far has secured it one of the top four seeds in the district tournament, McIlvain said. The Spartans still have the always strong Cinco Ranch (3 p.m. Sept. 29 at Cinco Ranch) and Taylor in the (3 p.m. Oct. 6 at SLHS) on their schedule.

Volleyball notches first district win of 2009

A come-from-behind win marked the District 17-5A opener for the Seven Lakes varsity volleyball team.
The Spartans needed four games to get past Mayde Creek Friday in Rams gym.
After Mayde Creek took the first game in the best-of-five match 25-18, the Spartans rallied to take the next four 25-17, 25-16 and a nail-biting 25-23.
The win brings the team’s record to 14-16 overall and 1-0 in district play. Earlier in the season the team posted wins over perennial powerhouse Memorial High School and Clear Springs.
The Spartans are led offensively by Jill Ivy (248 kills, 3.2 per game), Nicole Bardaji (204 kills, 2.65 pg), Amanda Grimes (132 kills, 1.74 pg) and Courtney Ursery (129 kills, 1.95 pg). Ivy, and Emily Adams lead the Spartans in service aces with 30 each, while Morgan McKellar (16) and Paige Richardson (11) have helped keep opponents in check.
Adams sits atop the team’s assist category with 362 on the season (6.24 pg) and is helped out by Claire Bauman who has notched 190 thus far (4.75 pg).
McKellar leads the team in digs with 274 (3.04 pg), along with Ivy (1762.29 pg), who leads the team in blocks with 94 (47 solo, 47 assisted, 1.22 pg). Grimes has issued a fair number of rejections with 47 blocks (23 solo, 24 assisted, 0.64 pg).
The Spartans take on cross-town rival Katy at 5:30 p.m. in Spartans gym Tuesday, Sept. 29. The Tigers (7-16, 1-0) opened district play in straight set win over Morton Ranch.

Northbrook falls to Spartans on Senior Night

The Spartan varsity football team made a statement Friday night when it defeated Northbrook High School 57-0.
The win, which came on Senior Night, marked the Spartans largest margin of victory and set a school record for the most points scored in a regular season game.

Freshman squads post zeros

The Seven Lakes High School Freshman football squads improved their record to 5-0-1 overall with wins this week.
The Freshman A team posted 51 points and gave up none against Northbrook High School. The squad also posted wins against Foster and Dulles high schools during the first two weeks of play.

The Freshman B team bettered its record to 2-0-1 with a win over Fort Bend Travis. Taylor fell victim to the B team, which has yet to allow a score, in week one. Week two saw the Spartans reach a 0-0 stalemate with Foster High School.

Spartans Boys Basketball Advances in Playoffs

The Spartans beat Friendswood Tuesday night in the first round of the State Play-offs 59-50! They played great team basketball and tough defense to advance!

Our next game is Friday at 7:00 pm at Butler Stadium in HISD vs. Smiley.

The Spartans basketball program has set a new standard for success! For the second year in a row, all Sub-Varsity teams have ended the regular season as District Champions, the program achieved the first 100 wins season, and the Varsity advanced to the State Playoffs!!! Go Spartans!
